Research has shown that many teachers do not know how to ask questions in such a way as to get students to logically proceed through an entire lesson, and instead see questioning mostly as just a means of student assessment (e.g., “What do they know?") or student engagement (e.g., "What do you find interesting?"). In short, questioning is not traditionally used to teach, as much as it is to assess and engage.
